Cathay Pacific is reportedly investigating the idea of asking frequent flyers in business class to bring their own cutlery. This news comes as the airline industry is trying to adopt sustainable initiatives to make the sector more environmentally friendly.
Bringing your cutlery
According to a report by Paddle Your Own Kanoo, the Hong Kong-based carrier has sent out a survey to some frequent flyers through its Cathay Lab consumer community, which consists of more than 10,000 customers around the world.
A screenshot of the survey containing specific questions was later shared on FlyerTalk, one of the world’s largest internet forums for frequent travelers. The airline surveyed its frequent flyers to gauge their willingness to participate in the carrier’s sustainable initiatives.
The survey presented four statements outlining four initiatives, such as bringing their own cutlery set, actively disposing of used plastic bottles into recycling bins, handing used plastic bottles to cabin crew during water bottle collection before landing, and bringing and refilling their own water bottles during the flight.
When discussing these initiatives, most participants on the forum expressed willingness to participate in almost all of them. However, some guests noted that bringing your own cutlery didn’t make sense, suggesting that the airline provide reusable cutlery.
