Last month, strong growth was observed for many prominent European country pairs. This trend will continue in July 2023, with significant improvements between Eastern and Western Europe. The Germany-Turkey, UK-Greece, and Spain-France pairs are particularly likely to see notable growth. Every month, OAG, a travel data provider with headquarters in the UK, creates a report on Airline Frequency and Capacity Trend Statistics.
The flight data used in this report is gathered through Schedules Analyzer, a modern platform for analyzing airline schedules. The report contains key facts and figures, including Top 20 Airlines and Top 20 Airports, plus additional information regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery of the travel industry.
What are country pairs?
In aviation, “country pairs” refers to two countries that are connected by an air transportation service. It is often used to describe the air traffic between two nations or the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASAs) that exist between them that regulate air services between their respective territories.
These agreements are negotiated between governments and establish the conditions under which airlines from each country may operate air services to the other country. For example, if an airline operates flights between the United States and Japan, this route would be considered a “country pair.” These agreements can cover a wide range of issues, including the number of flights allowed, the types of aircraft that may be used, the routes that may be flown, the pricing of tickets, and the allocation of landing rights at specific airports.
